No Tracking Update — Package Not Scanning
Package hasn't shown a new scan in days? Here's what it means and what to do.
How Long Before You Should Worry?
| Scenario | Wait This Long | Then Do This |
|---|---|---|
| Just shipped — only "Accepted" scan | 48-72 hours | Normal — packages not always scanned at every stop |
| In transit, no update for 2-3 days | 5 days total | Contact carrier with tracking number |
| Shows "In Transit" for 7+ days (domestic) | 7 business days | File a Missing Mail search (USPS) or claim inquiry |
| International — no update for 14 days | 21 days | Contact carrier, may be in customs |
| Never got any scans at all | 3 days | Verify tracking number format; check with sender |
Steps to Take
- Wait the appropriate time for your carrier and service type
- Try tracking on the carrier website directly (not third-party)
- Contact sender to confirm tracking number is correct
- Call carrier customer service with your tracking number
- File a USPS Missing Mail Search (USPS), or open a trace inquiry (UPS/FedEx)
- After 7 business days no movement: file a claim
