- Asks for payment — Real carriers don't ask for payment via text/email to release packages
- Suspicious URL — usps-delivery[.]com, fedex-track[.]net, ups-delivery[.]info (not .com)
- Grammar/spelling errors — "Parcel is being retained," broken English
- Links to non-official domains — Real USPS only uses usps.com, UPS only uses ups.com
- Asks for personal info — SSN, credit card, password

- Text from random number — Carriers use shortcodes (5-6 digits), not random 10-digit numbers
- Prize or customs fee — "Pay $3 customs fee to release your package"
